WINDOWS XP DIALUP ACCESS SETTINGS - Manual

The following instructions will help you set up your computer to work with our dialup internet connections if you have a computer using Windows XP. As Windows XP has several versions you may need to find similar areas to what's listed below to set up your connection. This page will help you set up your connection manually. You may prefer to set up your connection using your New Connection Wizard. For set up instructions using your New Connection Wizard CLICK HERE instead. (For other operating systems please select the appropriate link on the support page.

( You must use a Computer Administrator account to create or modify your dial-up connections.)

( You must use a Computer Administrator account to create or modify your dial-up connections.) From the Start menu, select and open Control Panel.

From the Control Panel, select and open Network and Internet Connections.

Select "Set up or change your internet connection".

In the Internet Properties window, you'll see a "Connections" tab.
Click "Setup".

Select "Connect to the Internet".
Click "Next".

Select "Set up my connection manually".
Click "Next".

Select "Connect using a dial-up modem".
Click "Next".

The next window asks you to name the connection. You can name it anything you like. Most users call this connection 'quasar' or 'orlandoisp'.
Click "Next".

Enter the access number you've selected. If it's a local call you should not need the area code in the area code field, but if you are on 10-digit dialing the area code should be in the same field as the rest of the phone number you are dialing.

Enter the username we've assigned you for your dialup connection in the "User name" field, and the password you've selected in the "Password" field. This is not the same as your email username in most cases. You may also choose to not enter your password now but may enter it manually when prompted each time you connect.

You will optionally choose whether to "Make this the default Internet Connection". (Recommended).
Click "Next".

Select "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop"
then click "Finish".

An icon for your new connection should now be on your desktop.
You can click on this to open the Connect window. If you did not put in your password earlier, you'll now be prompted to do so.

Click "Dial" to connect.

For Mail:
POP3 server (incoming mail) and SMTP server (outgoing mail) are both mail.quasar.net

POP3 username:
Your account name by itself. This is the name that precedes @quasar.net which is normally different than your dialup username.
